Samar is passionate about creating positive impact, with more than a decade of experience in entrepreneurship, higher education, financial inclusion, governance & international relations. She recently established Epiphany, a mission-driven consulting firm aimed at strengthening institutional capacity of enterprises and startups, especially women-led and socially/environmentally driven, NGOs, government organizations as well as human development. She is the Team Lead for Epiphany Lab, an impact accelerator launched in October 2017 in collaboration with Uncharted (formerly Unreasonable Institute, Colorado, U.S). She launched Epiphany’s women empowerment initiative, Smashing It! in July 2017. In January she launched Epiphany’s workshop series targeted at addressing skills gap faced by aspiring and existing entrepreneurs and working professionals. The first workshop was titled “The Art of Storytelling in Business”.

She has been actively involved in encouraging women-led and other businesses to flourish in Pakistan by conducting workshops at World Bank’s WomenX program and NUST, mentoring at Business Plan Competition (Air University); HULT Competition (TMUC); Just Innovate (IHEID Geneva); Startup Academy (WECREATE); Startup Weekend (Peshawar 2.0); LaunchPad (Plan9); Build a startup (NUST); Business Incubation Center Launch (Institute of Space Technology). She was also a panelist at the report launch of “Activist to Entrepreneur: The Role of Social Enterprise in Supporting Women’s Empowerment in Pakistan” (British Council); Moderator at “Pakistan at 100: Envisioning Reforms to Accelerate and Sustain Inclusive Growth” (SDPI); Discussant at Public-Private Dialogue on Economic Agenda for Elections 2018 (SDPI); Speaker at WECON 2017; Panelist at Women Enterprise Summit (Startup Development Institute) and Panelist at Women Entrepreneurship Round-Table (FPCCI). Furthermore, she participated in World Bank’s WomenX program in Islamabad and graduated in December 2017 which has enabled her to develop an even more robust understanding of the challenges faced by women entrepreneurs, their strengths and weaknesses and gaps in financial and non-financial services.

Prior to this, she was one of the pioneering team members at Karandaaz Pakistan where she led the organization’s marketing, communications & advocacy portfolio; spearheaded its community mobilization and capacity building portfolio; thereby making it a transformative financial inclusion agent. At the USAID’s Citizens’ Voice Project, a 45 million USD project, Samar was spearheading the communications portfolio. She also coordinated the Project’s performance audit and developed the close out plan. She also conducted fact-finding and M&E missions in Lahore, Bahawalpur, Multan, Vehari, Tharparker, Tando Mohammad Khan, Hyderabad, Shahdadpur, and produced comprehensive M&E reports, success stories and institutional case studies of voice and accountability projects. The M&E visits covered a range of issues from water rights and municipal rights to higher female voter turnout. She was a core team member of the taskforce that established Habib University Foundation, Institute for Advancing Careers and Talents (iACT) and the revolutionary liberal arts & sciences university in Karachi – Habib University. She also served as a critical member of the team that conceptualized Karachi Institute of Technology & Entrepreneurship (KITE). She has vast experience in designing and curating workshops, seminars and courses for industry stakeholders, ranging from digital credit, human centered design research, e-commerce, blockchain technology, challenges of the startup eco-system, climate change, post-colonial higher education etc.

Samar has a postgraduate degree in International Relations, specialization in Political Science from the Graduate Institute of International & Development Studies, Geneva and an undergraduate degree in International Relations, specialization Political Science, from Webster University, Geneva.

She received Young Alumni Award 2017 by the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva, which has produced alumni such as Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary-General; Leonid Hurwicz, 2007 Nobel Prize Laureate in Economics and Saul Friedländer, 2008 Pulitzer Prize Recipient, Historian and Professor at UCLA. She was also selected for the prestigious Australia Awards short course on Business Incubation Management course at University of Queensland in April 2017.

    Lots of good things are hapenning including from her own organizations, do we do not seems to see success stories in the media or in government web pages or universally acknowledged.
